I am a personal fitness trainer with over 5 years of experience.
I am National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified as well as certified in pre/postnatal fitness and practice-based nutrition. I also hold a certificate as a CrossFit L1 Trainer, and I graduated with a B.S. in Liberal Studies from Texas A&M University-Commerce in December 2022 with concentrations in health, wellness, and world history.
I work with military members, veterans, lifestyle clients, and those who wish to have more movement and mobility in their lives. In the past 5 years, I guided over 100 people in achieving their fitness goals including dramatic weight loss (60+ lbs), pre- and postnatal fitness education and activity maintenance, strength gains, long-term health, and regaining functional movement. I continue to educate and enable the community on health, mobility, and nutrition by providing free and low-cost seminars.
In 2019, I created my online personal training business Yellow Rose Fitness which I rebranded to Strong Mom Club in 2021 after having my son. However, I recently changed to an all-encompassing brand (Medina Fit) and made SMC a fitness program within my bigger brand as I return to training populations beyond pre- and postnatal.
I worked out throughout my pregnancy in 2021 and during that season and through postpartum, I realized many moms struggle to find what is safe for them and baby while maintaining as much fitness as they can. As part of my passion for helping others, I wish to help fellow moms discover their strength throughout their pregnancies, postpartum periods, and beyond while safely taking care of their bodies.
Beyond working with pre- and postnatal mamas, I train many lifestyle clients aiming to reach healthier lifestyles to increase their quality of life. Whether it is increasing their mobility or teaching them functional fitness, I look forward to helping them strengthen their bodies and move better throughout their day-to-day lives.
My love for fitness comes from playing over 15 years of various sports including basketball, volleyball, track, and cross country running. When I started college, I tried to keep the momentum going but despite running 4 miles every day, I was never educated on actual lifestyle health and wellness outside of being an athlete.
I gained almost 45 pounds in the span of a year, my mental health suffered, and nothing ever felt quite right when it came to fitness or eating. After that year, I decided enough was enough and took my health back into my own hands. I researched and studied almost every piece of material I could get my hands on. I began doing at-home workouts with nothing more than 1 dumbbell and a small, 2.5 feet by 6 feet space in my bedroom back home.
I pushed past a huge hurdle of social anxiety and made it to the campus gym a couple times a week during semesters.
This resulted losing several pounds very quickly, and I was definitely feeling better.
However, I still felt something was missing.
In 2017, I took a leap of faith in myself and started CrossFit. At the time, I couldn't afford to keep going so programmed CrossFit workouts for myself in my garage at home. Again, still with 1 dumbbell and a cooler I used for box jumps (haha).
I returned to that same gym (under a new owner) in 2019 after healing from a miscarriage while my husband was deployed, and here I was accepted into a community I never experienced before.
This introduced me to a whole new side of fitness where people support others doing hard things and we all learn how to care for our bodies for the long-term through functional fitness.
In 2021, I gave birth to the cutest little brown eyed baby I've ever looked at.
Leading up to his birth, my pregnancy was fairly normal, but I realized true, safe information for pregnant or postpartum women who workout wasn't readily available. I spent a lot of time completing certifications and researching to make sure my workouts wouldn't cause my baby or myself any harm.
After having my son, I spent 3 months rehabbing my core from diastasis and learning to work around a moderate hernia that pregnancy exacerbated.
Along with that, I returned to at-home fitness and have spent more time over the past two years in my living room or garage than I have in a gym doing 5, 10, or 20 minute workouts (dictated by kiddo most days).
Now, 2 years postpartum, I'm doing most of the things I could do pre-baby with a great deal of appreciation for all moms everywhere just trying to make it through every day life, taking care of ourselves, and raise our babies.
